I would just like to thank Ronnie Wallace for bringing the Championships to Cumbernauld. I know you had a lot of flak from mindless individuals on the Chess Scotland discussion page. I would have defended you on there myself Ronnie however I have still not had my second email from Andy Howie confirming my ability to use the discussion page.
One thing that I will say is that over the years when I have entered the Championships ie Troon or Edinburgh or Hamilton or Stirling. I would commute to the event. On the one occassion that I did not go because of the travel etc ie the Oban event. I did not slate everyone involved in organising the event for making it out of my reach. I just accepted that it was out of my reach due to distance and finance. So Ronnie I applaude you for you efforts and thank you again for bringing a Championship to my doorstep.
I was totally exhausted after my twelve games, both mentally and physically. I am delighted to have came second in the under 1500 event.
I really should have won it however I'm happy with a second. I had five wins and five draws and only two defeats. One defeat was fair enough but one was just a silly blunder which probably prevented me from being placed in the Weekend Minor event.

Comments from people that actually participated in the events have been on the whole complimentary of both the venue and Cumbernauld itself. Those that decided not to take part and be critical about a place they've never even been, well that really says more about themselves and quite frankly it's their loss. I guess however we have to expect that some of the mud slung at Cumbernauld in the press would stick in some people's eyes.

I myself am pleased how the week went apart from my own absymal performance in the Weekend Major! The turn out at the quiz and lightning event was disappointing but probably due to the fact that a lot of people were commuting and the lack of families due to the European event in Serbia occurring at the same time.
