I would just like to say thanks to Ian for last nights coaching session.
I enjoyed it and found it very informative (have already been practicing this morning in order to try and retain what I have learned) I know that my girls enjoyed it and have learned some important stuff which will be beneficial in the future.
Thanks again Ian for taking the time to do these, I hope you continue to do so
Admitedly the pretty low turnout last night might may be a little off putting.
However I'm sure that there are reasons why some could not attend.
There are a few in the club who could do with attending if only they could humble themselves and admit that they could improve a little and earn the odd draw instead of loss or win instead of draw.
We can all improve a little given the effort
Thanks again for your efforts Ian. |

Just to echo george's thanks, I also enjoyed the session and found it very useful I have looked at end game books several times but discussing the position in the group and hearing what other people think really reinforces the message.
Thanks to everyone who took part but especially Ian.

Hi folks,
I've sent a PGN with the stuff from last Wednesday night to Robert, so it should appear on the (old) board soon for your edification! If you found your interest piqued, there are numerous good endgame books out there. I'd particularly recommend the following:
Chris Ward - Endgame Play
Steve Giddins - 101 Endgame Tips
both of which should repay a closer look. If you're feeling particularly adventurous, then there's Mark Dvoretsky's fabulous Endgame Manual (also available on DVD) which will teach you more about endings than you ever thought possible. |

Just to let people know that I have uploaded the positions discussed at the coaching sessions for people to have a look at.

People!
Talk about coincidence. In the latest (April) issue of Scottish Chess, Keti Arakhamia Grant annotates in detail her game v. Nakamura from Gibraltar which features a tremendous R+P ending. Well worth your time!
How about Wed. 18th, Mon. 23rd or Mon. 30th April for our next wee session? |
