Derek, myself and Robert can all make Wed 4th June so I propose we hold the AGM that day with say an 8pm start time. |

I can make the 4th too, but that would only guarantee a turnout of four! What does the constitution say re advance notice of the AGM? How many are required for a quorum? Why not a 7:00 start to allow an extra hour's discussion? |

I can book the room until 10.30pm, I would be horrified were the meeting to last longer that 2hrs30mins. I'll circulate the date and time via e-mail. |

Having just endured a GCL AGM which finished at 10:30 am and listening to the groans of a bar full of Rangers supporters next door (was pointless recording the game as I knew the score before I got home) I really really hope that we are not going to spend forever rehashing old discussions yet again.
Is it time to throw in the towel as secretary? I am beginning to think so. _________________ Robert |

Would it be possible to publish an agenda beforehand? Might help avoid rehashes.

Robert, I, for one, appreciate all the work you have done, and continue to do, for the club. |

It's been a long tiring season I'm sure you'll feel different after a rest.
Although I'm considering abandoning chess next season ( I sound like David Bonella) especially if other players who did not earn the right suddenly start to play in the Glasgow Div One.
Best add that to your agenda for the AGM Robert. |

This will be my last AGM as president and captain of the various teams. |

Sorry guys, I did not mean to fish for compliments just let Wednesdays experience get to me and hoping it won't be replicated on the 4th JUne.
Might be worth circulating the agenda in advance as you suggest Ian but I doubt it will prevent the ususal discussions, at least we have a strong chair so that should help.
See you on the 4th _________________ Robert |

Although nobody could blame Ronnie for going through with this, I for one hope he doesn't.
His efforts as President and Captain of various teams have been directly responsible for:
- promotion to GCL Div 1;
- promotion to Dunbartonshire Div 1 (and finishing close runners-up for the Championship this season);
- entry in SNCL and promotion to SNCL Div 2;
- winning Dunbartonshire Cup;
- winning Central League Cup;
- a very successful Scottish championship held in Cumbernauld
to mention but a few. None of these would have happened otherwise. There was also the purchase of new equipment (e.g 'Lidl' chess clocks) but I won't hold that against him!
Seems to me that a bit more support and appreciation wouldn't go amiss.

Why exactly is he considering "going through with it"?
Surely not because some people have different views regarding who should play in the Gla Div One.
Everyone is welcome to their own opinion regarding this issue, I may be the only club members who shares my opinion all will be revealed at the AGM.
To suggest that we are not supporting Ronnie is a little unfair in my opinion.
I have played 44 games for Cumbernauld Chess Club this Season.
I'm thinking of changing my name to George Foreman or "The man from Del Monti" The man who like to say YES! |

I'm not considering anything, I've already decided.
I've said already that I would not be captaining the SNCL team and
have outlined in a different thread why I will no longer be
continuing as President.

I would have considered organising the Glasgow team in a non-playing (unless really
required) capacity however as you have threatened to quit the club/chess if conditions that I
could not agree to as the team captain are met I have decided it is best that I let someone else lead the team in division 1.
Anyway I'm quite pleased with my one season as GCL team captain in gaining promotion despite the loss of our top board.
It's nice of Mark to heap such praise on my time as President however all of the achievements he has listed would not have come about without the help and support of members of the club. |

Few things:
[1] Since Ronnie has declared his intention to step down, I wish to throw my hat into the ring for the office of President.
[2] Ronnie - you did a great job rustling up players to get the club into div. 1. I, for one, would like you to stay on as captain, even in a non-or-less-playing capacity!
[3] George (and anybody else) - to allay fears about the composition of next season's GL div. 1 team, I had a look at present and current on-line grades. Based on these, and on players who played at least three games in div. 2 this season, the team in board order would be Marks, Ross, Parkes, Bonella, Johnstone, Wallace, Thomson & Kerr, subs Hendry & Kelso. It is entirely likely that other players besides Paul and Robert will be called upon. (I do not have current grades for CS non-members, so that order could be open to change a little.) Either way it seems pretty certain that you will be in the team, even if we are suddenly inundated with IMs and 2300+s all looking for a gig in GL1. As I said elsewhere earlier, it ain't gonna happen. Chin up and stick with us, good buddy. |
