Once again the great Chess Questions get asked:
Like: Who was it that phoned David Johnstone last night and cost us the match?
As you will no doubt be aware we lost last nights home match against Dunfermline.
Mark Ainsworth had a draw with Ian Robertson.
Ronnie Wallace defeated Calum Smith.
George Thomson defeated Yorke Cleave.
the other games were lost, sorry that I dont have the details.
Had David not received "that phone call" "his second this season" he would probably have won his game which would have seen us progress if the match had finished drawn as I believe we had the lower graded team. The final result was Dunfermline 4.5 -2.5 Cumbernauld.

Sorry Goerge but not for the first time on a notice board your talking b***ks! 
Had David won his game and the match been drawn we would still have
gone out on board count. Even if we'd been tied on board count we would
have lost as the next method would have meant dropping the bottom board
scores until one team had the lead. |

Does the fact that David lost by default mean that the game does not get Graded?
I think if I had won a game under these circumstances I would feel a little cheated if I lost out on any grading point increase.
This strikes me as unfair as the Dunfermline player had travelled ETC ETC.
Question:
Can You opt to play on rather than take the win by Default?
Question:
Do you think perhaps a ten minute loss of time would be more appropriate?

I think he could have opted to play on but he wouldn't
then be able to turn the clock back so to speak and retrospectively
claim the game by default.

That would need to be discussed at the Central AGM.

Guys, what was the rush to clear up last night? Not only was it - and the various conversations taking place - distracting, but, I would suggest, discourteous to those still playing. It's not as though there were only a few seconds till chucking out time; it was going on before 9:00.
It is ironic that the incident which led to a game being defaulted caused less hassle than the ensuing urge to be tidy.
Perhaps I should apologise for playing on and trying to save half a point for my team? Next time I'll just resign and you can tidy my board away too. |

If your game had gone to the wire it would have been bang on throwing out time.
We had already asked the caretaker a favour to get us another room as we only had the one booked so didn't want to upset her more.
Surely it was better getting cleared up early rather than when you have a few minutes on your clock? |

Surely if a weaker team holds a stronger to a Draw then the Weaker team deserves to go through to the next round.
How does this crazy system work? |

If my game had gone to the wire it would have been bang on 10:09. That would have given us a minute for a 10:10 exit or six minutes for a 10:15. A minute is more than enough to put your set away. (When was closing time last night anyway?)

And how do you decide which of the two teams is the weakest?
Not a good idea at all in my opinion.
The teams last night were pretty evenly matched.

Add up the boards you won on, team with the lowest board count wins.
If this is still tied, drop the score from the bottom boards until one teams
is ahead on match points.
Basically, the team that performs best on the higher boards goes through. |

I had the foresight last week to extend our booking from 2200 to 2215. 
Basically the caretaker expects us to be finished by 2210.
