White 1644 Daniel Rocks 1 Mark Ainsworth 0 2080
Black 1726 John Dempsey 0.5 Jack Parkes 0.5 1640
White 1740 Stuart Callison 0.5 David Bonella 0.5 1622
Black 1197 Douglas McGregor 0 David Johnstone 1 1610
Jack and David B earned us a point showing good resistance despite being on the back foot. David B got into an opening muddle but reorganised his forces well in the middle game. Jack was defending at the end but his opponent couldn't get past him in a rook and pawn ending. Mark went down to a young opponent who is likely to be over 1900 by year end but still a bit of a surprise. We are well poised in the league at the half-way stage- maybe a half point off the pace. Perhaps we can do a Sebastian Coe in the final lap of an 800 metres and pick up the pace after the bell.
There were some singers in an adjacent room tonight. They were somewhat of a distraction but put on a terrific concert. It reminded me of Eric Morcambe's quip : "I played all the right notes, but not necessarilly in the right order." |

Or in the case of Mark " I made all the right moves, although not necessarily in the right order"
Makes me think of the old Chinese Chess Proverb " One day you're King Kong and the next your Ping Pong"
It's hard to believe that he lost to young Daniel Rocks especially since I beat him when I played him.
It's a funny old game Chess.
A 2-2 draw is better than a defeat so well done guys! |
