There was only Jack and myself at the Club last night. The Central heating was not working as there was no oil delivery. So Jack and I huddled round a little fan heater which the janitor kindly gave us.
We managed to get four twenty minutes each games played. I was delighted to secure a 2-2 score line. I'm not sure if I am improving or Jack is getting worse. I still dont think I would manage to beat the old fox in an hour long game. He probably let me win in order to boost my confidence!

Sounds like luxury compared to the on-off roasting-freezing ambience created by that deafening industrial-grade blower at Bothwell's dump.

Look on the bright side Ian you will not have to worry about the cold in Gibraltar. I hope you appreciate how lucky you are to be able to attend this competition.
Good Luck over there Ian. I would love to be able to write an exciting story for the Cumbie news about you defeating some IM'S and GM'S.
Remeber Ian keep you eyes on the Chessboard and just play CHESS.
Good chess hopefully!!
Enjoy youself.

Just before about to leave the house on Monday for centerparcs I smelt gas near the hob so ended up calling out Transco. They fixed the leak, but boiler then reported a fault and wouldn't start, so at this point cut our losses and headed south. Needless to say house is pretty cold and so wife and kids are spending night with mother-in-law and hopefully the SG engineer will be able to fix the boiler tomorrow. BRRRRRR!
