Hi folks
Happy New Year! May all your pawns become queens in 2008 (unless you're playing me).
I've had a look at the fixtures and as far as I can see the following dates would be free to fit in a coaching session:
Mon. 11 Feb.
Wed. 13 Feb.
Wed. 20 Feb.
Wed. 5 Mar.
Wed. 12 Mar.
Mon. 17 Mar.
Mon. 24 Mar.
Wed. 26 Mar.
Wed. 2 Apr.
Mon. 7 Apr.
Wed. 9 Apr.
Mon. 14 Apr.
I'd be happy to do a meeting a month, as before Christmas, so could team captains (or anybody else!) please let me know if there are any clashes I've overlooked, or if any would-be attendees are on holiday? If there are no problems, I'll pick three dates for our meetings and post the details soon. |

In the absence of any hands-offs, how about the following dates?
Wed. 13th Feb.
Wed. 5th Mar.
Wed. 9th Apr.
I've picked Wednesdays so as to leave Mondays free as "club night" if anyone wants to come up and just play. Derek, pls let me know if these Weds interfere with your junior work. TIA. |

Wee reminder about the coaching session this Wednesday, 13th Feb. Could I ask those of you coming to bring the score of one of your games with you? Apart from looking at games, I'll be getting you to work on some tactics and endings. Why should I do all the work
See y'all Wed. |

Next session this Wednesday, 5th March, starting about 7.15ish. Some tactics and endgame stuff, a game or two and I'll get you to do the work, same as last time Don't know if there's any Euro footy on, but hey, set the video recorder. |

Still a few weeks till our next session on 9th April, but a taste of things to come.....
I was thinking of dipping a toe into the muddy waters of the openings. Let me explain. Last time, Robert asked what the guarantee of success was. The answer is, there isn't one. Or at least if I knew what it was I would either be world champion or write a book on it and make a million (or both). But by handling the opening basics better you can improve your prospects of a better middlegame, which in turn should lead to scoring more points.
What I had in mind was not theory (you don't need it) but to look at some basic opening dos, which you should do, and some don'ts, which you shouldn't, based on the types of mistakes I see being made frequently. In other words, the sort of stuff which, if you avoid, should improve your winning prospects.
So come along and put 500 points on to your rating. (Note that I am not covered by the Trades Descriptions Act.) |

Hi folks,
Just a reminder about the last session of the season this Wednesday, 9th April, where, at no cost to yourselves, I shall reveal the guarantee of success. (See my previous comment about the Trades Descriptions Act.) As I said in the previous post, we'll have a look at some openings stuff to get you off on the right foot, also some tactics and examples of inspiring (I hope!) play. See y'all. |

Well Ian I don't know about 500 but you have certainly helped add about 100 to my grade this season.
So keep up the good work! |
