Yes Ian I forgot to say that you contradicted what I thought was a law of chess. I thought that it was Impossible to Checkmate with just a king and Bishop. Your amazing example proved otherwise.

I will have to wait for Ian to post the example again to be sure but I thought there was more than just the two kings and a Bishop on the board which is the draw position you are thinking of.

Hi George

If the K has no flight squares you can checkmate with anything! E.g. WN on f7, BK on h8, BR on g8, BPs on g7 & h7; or WR on h1, BK on h8, BR on g8, BP on g7. Hence you can checkmate with K+B if the other K's escape square is blocked. In the example, the Ph7 prevented flight. A WP on g7 instead of the B would have done the job just as well. You're quite right, of course, that you can't mate with K+B v. lone K.
