The simul is next Monday, 27th. Please be there for a 7.00 pm start. I have spoken to the caretaker about rooms and it is likely that we will be able to use room 15 (our "other" room along the corridor) - bigger, comfier, more tables and not exposed to direct evening sunlight.
Participants are as follows:
Adults
Gary, George, David J, Robert, Derek F, Paul, Jack, Derek Mc
Juniors
Sarah, Lisa, Jack, Emma-Louise, Ulugbek
Possibles
Ronnie? David B?
There might be room for one more. First come, first served.
We will charge a very modest board fee of £3 for adults and £1 for juniors to help defray expenses. There will be a prize for the person who turns in the best performance.
If you have never taken part in a simul before, I will let you into a trade secret. The player giving the simul likes nothing better than for you to lie down and let him tickle your tummy, so play actively and give Steve something to think about. (I take no responsiblity for any mishaps resulting from following this advice )
Enjoy the evening! |

Ian,
How long do we get before the next move? Is it a fixed time or do we have to be ready when he gets to our board?

Hi Robert (and anyone else!)
When the simul-giver (I wish there was a better word for this!) comes to your board you make your reply to his last move. He then makes his reply and moves on, letting you think about your next move.
There's no set time for this. During the first few moves it's usually as long as it takes the s-g to get round the boards, but as the games settle down and require more thought, it could be quite a generous while.
Say the middle games are in full swing and there are 15 players. Even if the s-g takes only one minute per board, that would give you a quarter of an hour. 30 seconds would give you 7-8 minutes.
As the games finish, the games generally speed up again - fewer players.
I'll run through the procedure on Monday night and deal with any questions.
Hope this helps. |
