I noticed that the S.N.C.L and Weekend Competitions are now allowed to be F.I.D.E rated.
I suppose this means an end to my playing in the S.N.C.L.
One who has played loyally since we started to play in this competition!
Will I be asked to make way for the F.I.D.E Grade Grabbers??
I may be jumping the gun a bit I know.
But the only tune my Guitar will play is OH CRUEL RAIN AND WIND! |

Not sure where your coming from here, but that won't stop me replying.
They have always been allowed to be FIDE rated.
The proposal at the CS AGM was to have them not be able to be FIDE rated which was defeated.
Being FIDE rated doesn't mean you require a FIDE grade to be able to participate, otherwise how would anyone else get a FIDE grade!
It's only the SNCL division 1 that's FIDE rated. |

Thanks for your answer Ronnie. I did not realize that it was only the Division one games that where F.I.D.E rated. As I had heard whispers on the C/S website that F.I.D.E grades where set to go as low as 1400.
I might have just managed to scrape myself into that region. It's about time that all S.N.C.L games where F.I.D.E rated
Anyway as usual I got the wrong end of the stick and assumed that if the S.N.C.L became F.I.D.E rated then people who previously had not been interested would suddenly want to become involved, at my expense. |

I know I was wrong to make any assumptions.
I should have listened to that old Chinese Proverb never to assume anything. As it makes an ASS of U and ME. |

I was at the AGM. I supported the motion that SNCL & weekend congress games not be FIDE rated for what I believe to be very relevant reasons (ask me next time you see me).
There were a large number of abstentions. Some people basically agreed with the motion, but did not support it because they felt that either all SNCL/weekend games should be FIDE rated, or none at all. Others felt that the motion was incompetent, since it is not CS's job to tell league/tournament organisers what to do with their games. The decision that SNCL/weekend games be submitted for rating to FIDE is only a recommendation, since the SNCL is an autonomous body and can make its own decisions outwith CS.
As far as FIDE ratings are concerned, I believe it is FIDE's intention to take the base line down to 1001 in the fairly near future, so, George, you need have no fear of any FIDE-rating-grabbers pinching your place.
Much as I disagree with having SNCL & weekend games FIDE rated, we can only go along with the vote as taken. I personally will use it as an incentive to do better and improve my FIDE rating. |
