The Internet Chess Club at http://www.chessclub.com/
If memory serves they allow you to play games of varying length from bullet up. They also charge an annual sub.
Having said this, I don't play online any more. Got fed up with small-minded get-a-lifes who could only handle (a) defeat by dishing out abuse and (b) victory by dishing out abuse. Their numbers weren't legion, but there were enough of them to put me off for good. The ICC has mechanisms for dealing with this, but they're long-winded and hard to implement at the time.
There are others, e.g. playchess.com. Why not google and shop around? |

| i would recommend FICS as a chess server. It is the free version of the one Ian mentions (probably the best due to the membership or playchess.com) but it is pretty much the same. You can choose the length of the time control and move increment. You set up a membership to FICS via email . they will send you your password. You then should download Babas as the actual electronic board and set it up to work with FICS with your username and password. There is a small learning curve for the commands to the chess server and also in customising your board etc but it is not at all a stressfull curve. Also Babas has Crafty (free chess program of GM strength) built in so you can get a very easy analysis of your games by playing your moves in to the board and turning on analysis mode and saving to a .pgn file. worthwhile ? or maybe not... |

Paul, I would also recommend FICS as the place to play, as David says you can set your own time controls and play both graded and ungraded games. An additional bonus is the large number of "lectures" which are held online that you can watch and learn.
Unlike David I use winboard which I find very easy to use and once you have gone through the help files the commands are relatively simple. _________________ Robert |
