The Scottish Team Lightning Championship took place at Grangemouth last Sunday, 14th December. Cumbernauld was not there. I was wondering why.
I admit, I have always been under the impression that this event was for "top" (can't think of a better word) teams, akin, say, to div. 1 of the SNCL, the upper reaches of GL div. 1, Edinburgh league etc. A glance at the final table would suggest that this isn't too far from the mark (albeit Stirling and an outfit called "The Extras" appear). Did anyone else think the same?
So I re-read the entry info on the CS website and, while there is nothing to specify who may or may not take part, there is nothing saying "big teams only" or "wee teams also welcome". I think the marketing of the event could clarify.
What I'm getting at is that I would have loved to try to raise a team to play; it would have been a great chess fun day and would have shown the club willing to support such events.
Then again, perhaps SNCLesque Sundayitis would have kicked in and I'm living in cloud-cuckoo land.
Anyway, let's try to get four bods together and get in there next year. Who's with me?

This event is not graded and is just for fun (I believe). This may or may not entice people to play. I would probably have played if asked. Though I feel that it is a little irrelevant. I play lightening every day on the computer (without travel) and it is quite exciting. Although I often lose in totally won positions because I forget that its only a two minute game and lose on time.
