To save repeating myself if people ask me about it individually...
The gamble of Kelvingrove really paid off. Apart from the splendour of the surroundings, the size of the place meant that there was plenty of room for all, and the general background noise was hardly noticeable. In fact it's worse when you're playing in a "normal" venue and the noise builds up towards the end of the playing session, or somebody's out in the corridor telling his mate about his latest blunder. Even the sound of people having a conversation 20 feet away was lost ("Your lips move, but I can't hear what you're saying" - one for all the PF fans out there Is there anybody out there? - Another one. Sorry, drifting a bit here...). The public seemed genuinely interested.
Your scribe scored a meagre 1½/5 in the Open, way off form, but (a) probably the strongest tournament in Scotland since the 2004 championship and (b) at least one decent win.
In the event that it's held at Kelvingrove next year, I'd recommend playing. As they said about Woodstock (and others), you shoulda been there. |
