Anybody playing in any of the Scottish events (like me)? Or are you all sipping pina coladas on the Costa del? Smile

I would love to play the Scottish sadly I'm taking Sarah to Manchester for her Mega-Final thing.
I May enter the Weekender.

George, how did Sarah get on?
If any of you have nothing better to do tomorrow (Tues.), the battle of the Ians - MacGregor v. Marks - is being beamed live to the world starting at 2.00, board 15.

Thanks for asking Ian, She finished on 2.5 from 6 which was two wins one draw and three defeats.
I never got to watch the games as everyone was thrown out of the playing hall. I,m very proud of her although she had one dodgy game were she went a queen up and thought that she was invincible only to blunder away her own queen and the game due to watching what was going on on other boards around her.
Lisa was on 3 from 5 going into the last round however I'm not sure how she got on as I vacated the premises as soon as possible due to the very long drive home.
Both Girls are a credit to your coaching sessions Ian. Apparantly Lisa won some Scottish Secondry schools champonship thing recently, I'm not sure of the details but her dad David mentioned it on Sunday.

Good to see that you are unbeaten at the moment Ian, Give us a win for tomorrow.
Good luck to you and Jack, I wish that I was playing!

Total Bummer I have only just discovered that there is no WEEKENDER this year due to the new format.
Or am I missing something? (Apart from a brain that is)

Given the tournament, sounds like the girls did themselves proud. Sarah's queen-up-loss will be a more valuable lesson that anything I could provide! As they say, a good fright is better than good advice Smile
Maybe no weekender because of (a) bigger entry to the Int. Open resulting in (b) not much spare room in the playing hall!

Only seeing up to board 14 on the bcf live feed. Sad
You'll just have to win so that you're on a higher board tomorrow!

I think it's only a lightning event at the weekend.

Ronnie if you clicked on the thin blue line at the bottom of the page you could watch Ians game, I watched most of it.

[Did she enjoy the event?[/quote]

She had a terrific time and enjoyed the atmosphere and especially enjoyed being able to get her "T Shirt" with her name listed beside such noteables as Connor Woods. The "T shirt" has all the Qualifiers listed on it and this tickled her a little bit.
Losing a won game was the only low point for her the rest were all highs.

I have Just phoned Jack Parkes to congratulate him on a magnificent victory over Gerald Bonner, only to discover that it is in actual fact not him playing. What a NUMPTY.
Ian I see another Junior caused a major upset when Young Daniel Rocks defeated Jonathan Grant.

Sorry, guys, if you sat through my game. A real mess from the word go, could have gone either way, we both ran very short of time and I lost the thread. Happens. Still, can get back to 50% tomorrow.
AFAIK, Jonathan was in terrible time trouble, Daniel offered a draw, and Jonathan declined...
It has been a tournament of real shocks so far.

Cheers, having a quick look at it now.
Ian, maybe I'm missing something, but why did you play 25. - b5 rather thab c2?

25...b5 is to stop 26 Nc4, hitting Q & B. Can't stop it and Ne4, though! If 25...c2 then just 26 Rxb2 +- (If 26 Qxb2 there's the rather sneaky 26...cxb1=N!) After 26 Rxb2, if 26...Rxd5 27 Nc4 wins, piece up. The play should not be examined too closely; we were both very short of time.
