We have had notification from muirfield that their regulations have changed and these changes will have a considerable impact on the Chess Club.

From now on if we have a room booked AND WE DON'T IT USE WITHOUT GIVING A WEEKS NOTICE we will be charged £31. This means that if on Monday night or Wednesday night no one turns up the club will incur the £31 charge.

To mitigate this we have already cut from two rooms per night to one but I am wondering if we will have to consolodate to one evening per week as the club night, and specified bookings only for home games on the other night.

This will have to be watched closely as we will very quickly run out of funds if we leave the rooms unused.

I think we need to discuss this in detail, perhaps at a special meeting but in the meantime can we try and make sure we are using the booked room on a Monday and a Wednesday or at least be clear which night we want to consolodate to.

Comments?

The Dumbarton 2 team has no further away games on Wednesday's. So I should be able to attend each Wed session. On occasion I have been their by myself.

Question - Should we have a rota to ensure that there is always at least 1 member present, as the nightly cost is in excess of an adults annual fee ?

Hi all, generally speaking im only available for chess on Monday nights and AWAY games on other nights. If we are booked with a match on a Monday night we would maybe need the 2nd room for normal club activities. i know not a lot of people are showing up at the moment for this. Derek what was the reason for having activities on the Wednesday night again - i can't remember- was it a personally suitable time sorry i forget? My reaction is that we should be well organised for a Monday night and not really bother with the Wednesday night but i think maybe there was another factor i can't remember. i know that with the 4 leagues we are stretched for Monday nights only but we could still manage to get all our home fixtures on a Monday night for all the leagues and this is not a common day for AWAY fixtures. The days where there is no league match would then be more obviously a club night where we could do stuff ourselves exclusively in 1 room. rambling a bit there no strong opinion at all but personally only really want to be thinking about chess on a Monday night laughs.

David

The reason for the Wednesday is that's when I take the kids.

Mondays is no longer of use for me as I have Golf club meetings on then.

Generally speaking George and I are usually there.

Talked to George on Monday eveing and he has talked to Gordon Hughes at the centre who is looking into the situation. "And will get it sorted" according to George, lets see what develops.

The next two Monday's (28Jan & 4th Feb) we have away Lanarkshire fixtures
so should we cancel the Muirfield booking for these nights?
I won't be able to make it on either night as I've other commitments.

there is a small possibility of a DumBARTON cup match on feb 4th . im waiting for them to confirm i offered them them 4th 11th and 18th and indicated a preference for the 11th. When Shettleston get back to me i will advise . it s dougie bryson who will get back to me as their captain has stepped down. A young lad joe will be their acting captain on the night. give me a day or two Smile

We are supposed to give a week's notice so to late for Monday 28th, can at least notify the 4th if david doesn't want to use it.
